TheInnerU Hosts: The New York Cares Coat Drive 2012

November 15, 2012 Leave a comment

The New York Cares Coat Drive is more important than ever in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. NYCares is aiming to collect a record 200,000 coats this year, and they need 50,000 coats immediately to distribute to New Yorkers in Staten Island, the Rockaways and other hard-hit areas.

Fact: In a normal year, 90% of homeless adults need a new, warm coat each winter because they have no place to keep one over the summer months. But this year, it’s not just homeless people who need our help; thousands of New Yorkers have been displaced and left out in the cold or in shelters as a result of the storm, creating unprecedented demand for warm coats.

Fact: Last year, with your help, New York Cares collected 78,000 coats. To meet the urgent need this year, New York Cares needs to collect 200,000 coats before the end of the year. That’s a lot more and New Yorkers are depending on every one of them.

The coats collected during The New York Cares Coat Drive are sorted at the NYCares warehouse and then immediately distributed to disadvantaged men, women and children at schools, homeless shelters, and community organizations throughout the city.  By mid-January, all of the coats collected will be warming New Yorkers in need.

Receipts will be provided for all coat donations. The value of any coat you donate is tax deductible.

If you are interested in donating, please email TheInnerU23@gmail.com now through December 31st – You can also drop coats off at public collection sites. Click here for a list and donate a coat today!
